A young small time bollywood actress has been taken into custody by local Mumbai police after being charged with violating the Child Labour Act of 1986 as well as the 2000 Juvenile Justice act.

She was taken into custody just today (22nd August 2009) and awaits for a court hearing which will determine her sentence. The court hearing is probably due to take place later today.
Urvashi Dhanorkar had a 10 year old domestic servant whom she ruthlessly abused and assaulted by; beating, punching and even burning. The 10 year old’s family let her go as Urvashi promised she would get to live a “better life” and that she would get an education.
Domestic servants are not uncommon in India, especially when a large majority of the population live under the poverty line and must do anything in order to keep their family going. However, treatment like this from bollywood stars is rare. Other families are lured into letting their children go by the prospects of them getting an education which is uncommon for alot of children in India as well as getting a better life in the capital of Mumbai.
Medical reports released showed that the young 10 year old had been hit in the eye, beaten on her back and burnt on her arm. The girl was kept locked up, sometimes for weeks at a time but her keeper’s dirty secret was uncovered when she finally managed to break free and went to her neighbours for help.
